As a result of incredibly hard work, Cody became one of the most consistent and reliable brown belts in the school. At age 15, he began assisting in all of the children’s and adult classes at the Norwood Dojo. Next he test at the top of his Black Belt class for a first degree black belt in 1996. Consequently, he and training partner John Hagman were ask to take over the Mansfield Dojo in early 1997.
In 2000, along with Vinnie Guerrini and John Hagman, Cody Robyn co-founded and developed the modern day American-Te Curriculum. Their style combined the greatest parts of traditional Japanese Karate, Filipino Arts, Kenpo, and many more. In addition, American-Te allowed continuous growth for not only the student, but for the style itself.
Later as 3rd Degree Black Belts in 2003, Cody and John took over the Norwood Dojo and completed ownership of the Learning Center for Martial Arts (now Excel Martial Arts). Cody is a Master Level instructor of Kyusho Jutsu and a developer of Kyusho International under Evan Pantazi. One of Cody’s most proud achievements is the creation of the Excel Special Needs program. This program aims to instruct all students regardless of physical, social, or cognitive disabilities. Students learn an adapted curriculum that teaches self defense, physical fitness, coordination, awareness, and self control.
Shihan Cody Robyn continues to study and develop American-Te, trains and teaches Kyusho Pressure Point Fighting, and practices a variety of martial arts. Presently, Cody focuses his efforts on Chinese Internal Arts (or Tai Chi), Filipino arts, MMA Grappling, and Systema.
